G1 (Minor) Watch issued for 12 January 2016

G1 (Minor) Watch issued for 12 January 2016
published: Wednesday, January 13, 2016 00:19 UTC

A G1 (Minor) geomagnetic storm watch has been issued for 12 January (UTC day) due to a recurrent, negative polarity, coronal hole high speed stream.  Whenever we have high speed solar wind stream features that have been observed consistently for several rotations, it is more likely that isolated minor geomagnetic activity will occur.  The image is a composite of several different wavelengths from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory.  The outline indicates the coronal hole we are tracking.
